Anyone tried the latest Etched AI features?

I just updated to the new version of Etched AI and noticed some changes, but I’m not sure how to get the most out of the new features. Has anyone else used them yet or have tips? I’d love to hear some honest user impressions and advice on what’s working well or not.

Honestly, I was hype for the update, but after poking around the new Etched AI features, I’m mostly left scratching my head and muttering “was anyone asking for this??” The new dashboard looks nice, I guess, but now everything that used to be one click is, like, three. Not sure why they had to fix what wasn’t broken.

Tried out the new auto-tagging thing. It SORT of works but keeps mistaking my meeting notes for shopping lists (do I really buy that much coffee?). Smart Summarize is decent but leaves out random stuff I needed, and the “AI Insights” are like, wow, thanks for letting me know my file is called ‘Final_FINAL_v2’. Super insightful.

I suppose if you’re big into the integrations, there’s some shiny toys for you — but unless you wanna lose an hour re-learning where they put stuff, prepare for some rage-clicking. My tip? Bookmark the old docs and consider putting the update off unless there’s a feature you REALLY need. Still, maybe there’s something golden in here I missed — anyone else actually found a killer use for the new stuff? Or are we all in UI purgatory waiting for the next patch?

Not gonna lie, the update kinda made me want to throw my mouse. I kept clicking stuff and just circled back to where I started, like a weird scavenger hunt no one asked for. But, I’ll give it this: the integrations with third-party apps (I tried with Notion and Slack) are actually smoother, so if you’re juggling between tools, it isn’t all doom-and-gloom. The “AI Insights” thing is a meme at this point, though. @kakeru nailed it—who knew I needed an AI to make fun of my file naming habits?

But here’s the hot take—if you really dig automation, the workflow builder finally lets you chain actions. I set up a thing that tags, summarizes, and files meeting notes with, like, two brain cells, so not nothing. Downside: configuration hell. Prepare for tab madness.

Biggest tip? Don’t try to relearn everything in one sitting. Just pin the functions you use most from the new menu (the “Favorites” thing, bottom left), and ignore the shiny stuff til you actually need it. And despite all the rage, I will say some of the smart highlight suggestions catch stuff I missed, so it’s not a total loss.

TL;DR if you thrive on chaos and like playing UI whack-a-mole, jump in now; if you like things where you left them, maybe join @kakeru in the “update when forced” club. If anybody figures out how to fix the tagging fails, tho, I’ll trade my next twelve AI Insights for your secret.

Is it just me or do most major AI tool updates these days feel like someone spilled a bag of features onto the UI and called it done? Etched AI’s recent overhaul is a classic “love it/hate it” scenario—almost like toggling dark mode and discovering all your settings are now in Klingon.

Here’s my two cents after a week of wrangling with what’s new:

The Good Stuff:

  • Integration upgrades are no joke. If you’re deep in Notion, Slack, or Trello, the pipelines are faster and more reliable. That cuts out some copy/paste busywork.
  • Workflow builder finally makes sense if you’re into hardcore automation. You can stack steps: tag → summarize → migrate. Saves clicks if you invest the setup time.
  • The Favorites menu hack is a genuine time saver. Stick your top 3 features there and cut the navigation pain. @yozora is right—don’t try to learn it all at once, just pin what you need.

Facepalms & Annoyances:

  • Auto-tagging is hilariously off sometimes—my grocery list is now “Q2 budget follow-up,” so ditto here to folks above.
  • “AI Insights” is mostly comic relief—you’re getting told obvious stuff or, worse, file name snark. Can we tune this? Anyone?
  • Dashboard’s pretty but adds steps—echoing @kakeru, why fix navigation that wasn’t broken?

Worth mentioning vs. competitors:
Both @yozora and @kakeru mentioned the UI friction and loose tagging, which, tbh, does make alternatives like Notion’s built-in AI feel smoother if you’re just after tagging/summarizing basics (even if those aren’t feature-complete).

Final thought:
If you love new toys and batch workflows, Etched AI’s update is decent—just be ready for confusion and a few laughs at what the AI tags your files. If you rely on fast, one-click actions, hold off or prep for a muscle-memory reset.

Pros:

  • Smoother integrations with third-party tools
  • Workflow builder is finally robust
  • Responsive highlight suggestions

Cons:

  • Clunkier multi-step navigation
  • Tagging accuracy is hit or miss
  • “AI Insights” needs real insight

If you figure out how to properly train the tagger, post it. I’ll trade memes—or at least my last ounce of UI patience!
